Enchant(ment)ed
If you get right down to it, I don't write much here. When I do, it's usually navel-gazing or bragging about my kids. I can't imagine why you bother to check in, but I'm so glad you do. I would promise to make it worth your while, but I know myself better than that... so instead, I promise to give you approximately the same level of neglect you've come to expect here.
You're welcome. ;)
Awright, awright... I'm just kidding. Sorta. So, for today's attempt at keeping the cobwebs at bay, here are photos from my past weekend climbing in the Enchantments, a range within the Cascade Mountains of Washington. We packed in from the trailhead to Colchuk Lake, loaded for a two-night stay. The next morning, we climbed Colchuk Glacier, then summited Dragontail Peak, rappelled down the backside, and dropped into the Enchantments before descending by way of Aasgard Pass back down to the lake itself. We spent another night, the night of Solstice BTW, and then packed out the following day after day-tripping some of the other climb-ables in the area.
Here's a view of the lake from part-way up the glacier:

Members of our expedition preparing to don crampons: (*heh* I said "crampons")

A scene from the backside of Dragontail:

Here's Mt. Rainier, all shy and hiding its head in the clouds:

A look at Prusick Peak from atop Dragontail:

You guys, seriously. It's so amazing to be out there. It is what keeps me sane, as sane as this is... which is dubious at times. I can't really speak of what I experience out there because it leaves me speechless. But it's wonderful. It's healing. It's almost spiritual. I don't know, but I'm addicted. We're climbing Rainier on the 19th (if I don't die from training before then).
