Yes, I WOULD like some cheese with that wine.
"They're out of Raven Ridge Red?" she asked as she finished her phone call and joined me at the wine bar. The server smiled apologetically and asked if we were looking for a full-bodied red, a complex, spicy red, or perhaps something lighter. Lisa and I just browsed for a bit until the Icicle Ridge label caught my eye. "Is that the Log Home blend?" Again, the server aimed a thousand-watt smile our way, acknowledged it was indeed the Log Home, and made some comment intended to be complimentary to my taste.
Here's what he didn't know: I know NOTHING about wine except how to drink and enjoy it. I am not terribly adventurous on my own, though I'm game to try new wines if someone else wants to lead the charge. If I'm intending to enjoy a glass, I tend to pick one I know I like, rather than waste calories finding out if I like a new one. I only chose the Icicle Ridge wine because I've been to that winery, and I've purchased bottles of that wine. Whether it's full-bodied, complex, spicy or lighter, I couldn't tell you.
Here's the other thing our poor little server didn't know: he shouldn't smile like that at women who are older than he is. Especially if we're drinking. It makes for rude conversations in the car on the way to the movie. ;)
Thanks Lis, for finding time to hangout. I had fun!

For a more complex wine, next time try the Log Cabin Red, which is a conflicted blend of fruit with definite conservative undertones.
WOW! I'm always very intimidated by wine. Probably because I don't drink and so have no personal experience. I categorize my wines into a red category and a white category. Fortunately for me and the recipient's taste buds I don't buy wine to give or serve often.
We like to try different brands of wine, but usually of the dry red variety. I take it that the server was cute???
B: That's Larry Craig's wine, isn't it?
Kranki: Don't be intimidated by wine, silly. Just drink it and show it who's boss!! Also, red. Always choose red.
Squirl: OMG, you have NO idea. So, SO, lethally cute. Ugh. All of a sudden the term "cougar" is less nauseating. ;)
*doesn't recall participating with any sort of wine ever, nor ever enjoying the term "cougar", but always enjoyed an episode with Otis The Town Drunk*
Bloggy: Ah, the good ol' days of Barney and Otis and their epic struggle!
Everyone knows that drinking and enjoying are the only important parts. Huzzah, booze.
Matt: Amen. In fact, I have some drinking and enjoying to do at this very moment. Yay merlot!
I won't mention what happened to me the last time I had alcohol served by a hot guy.
Sounds like ya'll had fun. But.....what movie did you see?
MD 20/20 is a nice wine.
TysGirl: Well yeah, but you deserved what happened to you. (And I'm so happy for you!!)
Bill: Now see, I don't know that one, and since it's you, I'm not even sure if you're making a joke or a recommendation!
Oh yah...Bill is being oh so serious (as usual ;-)
I'm happy when anyone serves me wine...cute or not. But I prefer the cute variety, definitely!
Q: HA! OK. I was a sheltered child... what can I say?!
And yes, wine = good. Definitely better than no wine, everytime.
