No WAY!

No photographic trickery, no funny business, no kidding. This is what I did this morning:

So, I'm at the waterslides yesterday, outnumbered 6-to-1 by children, when my cell phone rings. It's Sarah, whom I've not seen or even talked with for awhile because though we get along famously when we're working together on a show, that's really the only time we run into each other. She asks if I'd like to meet the individual pictured next to me above. I think she's joking, so I say sure, ha ha. And Sarah says, "Well, she's asked to meet you. Are you available at 9 tomorrow?"

Wha?? Why would she want to meet me? And how would she even know I exist? And how could she possibly be here in my tiny little corner of the globe?

Long story, and truth IS stranger than fiction, but the bottom line involves ethnic last names and a compassion for the 'little people' who love and invest themselves in community theater. So yes, Ms. Dolly herself requested the honor of my presence, and I showed up -- with flowers. She is more lovely in person than you can imagine, witty and gracious, and, and, and... somebody pinch me, seriously.

I MUST email my mother and send a link to your blog. She loves her some CC.

Peefer: I did feel rather lucky, especially as she's still alive. If she weren't, it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun.

Bloggy: Carol would like-a-da Bloggy, too. Or maybe that's just me. ;)

Hemlock: Welcome! I popped over to your site and took your eco-quiz -- very sobering, eh? Thanks for stopping by. And yeah, the fact that it was at her request really IS the coolest thing about it!

Shel: It was fun, and so totally unexpected as to be almost surreal. Thanks!

Kranki: Have you ever worked with her? Or anyone who has? I'm tellin' ya, she's a stitch! Of course, I didn't have to costume her...!

M/D: You make me laugh! :)

Amy: Absolutely do!! And now I've seen her in person, I love me some CC, too. She is delightful, and SOOOOOO funny! Very authentic.

Hi Eclectic:
I found your site via One Child Left Behind.

I LOVE Carol Channing? Is she nice and elegant and all that she seems???

OMG! I'm almost sick with jealousy right now. You're even cooler than I had ever imagined! Do we get any of the details? I wanna know!

Clo-Met: Welcome! And really, what's the point of pinching at all if you're not going to pinch seriously? ;)

Traci: Yeah, I'm back to earth, but it will remain one of the most random yet wonderful experiences I've ever had.

TwoBear: Isn't it crazy?! Yep, we're still planning to descend on the unsuspecting townfolk of Montana. You still okay with that?

Jim: They are? I think it should be anyone who loves The Carpenters and ABBA.

SSNick: Truly!

Teh Gato: Oh forgive me -- I didn't intend to leave you out! Glad you found your way afterall!! Say g'night, Gato. (Goodnight, Gato!)

Viscountess: Welcome! She is beyond description. She is sharp as a tack, and funny!! She had me laughing the whole time, despite my original plan to be nervous and awkward. Effortlessly elegant and disarmingly authentic.

Jenny: What details would you like? Oh, I know one: she is still remarkably tall. The picture distorts her height because she was leaning forward trying to show off those silly flowers (because she's incredibly gracious like that...), but she's probably still 5'8 or taller. And so beautiful! Wearing no make-up except lipstick, either. In fact, that's why she put her glasses on for the photo -- she was afraid the lack of eye make-up would harsh the picture. How cute is that??!

WOW! Two icons in one room!

I'd offer to pinch you, but if the rest of you is as tight as your abs... well forget it.

At 4:42 PM, Blogger Nina said...

How cool is that?? . . . she requested the honor of your presence, can't get much better than that.
Umm, I want to meet you too. :)

Wow, that is so awesome! And she asked to meet you! Maybe you can find a way to work that into your resume.

What a coincidence that you and I both got to meet famous people this week!

Perhaps I should know the answer to this question, but who's the guy?

At 6:08 PM, Blogger Nina said...

I forgot to say I'm so jillis of Carol Channing . . . she got to meet you!

At 8:46 PM, Blogger eclectic said...

SierraBella: That made me laugh! I'm sure you wouldn't be injured by trying to pinch me, except maybe your ear drums when I shriek.

Nina: You are soooo sweet! And hey, we'll make that happen -- I just don't know exactly when. Can't your vacation home be in Washington??

Shaw-key: Hee! That SoozieQ is famous in my book! Wait till I post pictures of what she sent me today!!! The gentleman is Ms. Channing's husband of three years and childhood sweetheart, Harry. He's every bit her match in the charming department, I assure you!
