A story I wrote in 10th grade, as originally written. Ugh.

High in the sky above the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, there was a certain star named Estelle. She loved where she lives, imagining herself to be as grand as the snow-capped peaks below, though sometimes she pretended she was the size of a nightlight, small enough for a child to hold. Still, to Estelle, the other stars all seemed bigger, brighter and more beautiful than she, and at times she felt lonely.

One night, twinkling lightly in her place, Estelle heard a new sound. She dropped lower to hear, and to her surprise, the words went like this: "Twinkle, twinkle little star. How I wonder what you are! Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky...". Well. Estelle had never before considered that people wondered about her, like the child's song said. And the little girl had mentioned a "little" star, so surely she must have been singing to Estelle. The thought made Estelle wriggle with happiness, which made her twinkles a little brighter and she felt better.

The next night, she anticipated darkness eagerly, lowering herself closer to the little girl's window and twinkling with all her might. Like before, the child sang the song but then disappeared and the song was gone. In the quiet that followed, Estelle stayed close to the window, twinkling gently to keep the girl company in her sleep.

A routine was born. Each and every night after that, the child would sing to Estelle, who would twinkle in reply until the day the girl was no longer little and didn't lean out her window anymore to sing to the stars.

Geez, what a stupid idea for a story! I'm probably going to flunk this class and have to spend my life cleaning hotels or something else shitty, but right now I don't care because it's time for lunch.

I liked this very much, even if it did not feature Wesley Snipes decapitating any vampires.

We need more story plz!

Ashley: You know what was awesomest? I accidentally turned this in as the first draft and got cafeteria duty as punishment for using the word "shitty."

Kranki: You are either criminally kind, or in need of serious upward revision in your expectations. But thanks. :)

Vahid: Oooh, vampires would have given it the little "kick" it needed! Estelle could be a zombie-star... too bad I wasn't allowed to consider such unholy concepts at my very conservative Christian school. Imagination fail.

Susie: See comment to Kranki above. How did I get such sweet friends and family?

Zuhn: Nothing, at the moment. I keep thinking I'll magically find time to pursue it...

Mo/Dis: I KNOW, right? My daughter's in 10th grade now, so this was um... a good reminder. Yeah, let's go with that. Thanks for the URL -- now I can update my links.

William: Well, since I don't have a scanner, I can't post my kindergarten photos... ;)

Shangie: NEXT WEEK?? OH HELLZ YEAH! Email me!

Twinnie: Bad to the bone, I'm sure. I mean, just look at me, all sinister and intimidating. ;)

Jessica: Gem? You're sweet. Crazy, but sweet. ;) I was sorting through a box from the garage and the draft was tucked in a notebook I unearthed. Remembering writing it made me laugh.

I know I have been really lame with my blog. I spend more time on Facebook. You bet we are partying in April. Wishing her friend Shari had a FaceBook account. :)
