The Enchantments
It was a lovely hike. The kind where you hardly notice exertion for the beauty of the surroundings and the ease of the companionship. Talk meanders on such outings, ebbing and flowing with the rhythm of footsteps, birdcalls and labored breath. Now and then a squirrel chastens us; his noisy chatter a caution to us or his friends, I'm never sure.
I'm resurrected out here, and I hadn't even noticed I had died. But the heart within me pulses in these wild places, to a beat it cannot sustain in town. I feel the surge of life, and my spirit startles awake from the numbing slumber induced by responsibility, schedules and stress.
Live here, I would.

Just lovely. I'm happy for you, and I confess, I envy you. I hope to have those moments again some day. xxx
Susie: I don't know if you know what an impact you have on me, so I'm just gonna tell you straight up: I see your comment and I start grinning before I've even read it. Just your presence makes my day. Thank you! I look forward to a time when we can take a walk together and laugh like hyenas.
gorgeous scenery, but i'm a stubble jumper to the core. mountains leave me feeling claustrophobic if i'm in them too long. however, i love the smell of pine/fur trees. there's nothing that can compare to that.
Great photo. Want to trade for a day? You can have the beach and I'll take a walk in the mountains.
Such incredibly powerful words - capturing the essence of place, taking us to its emotional core. As I read and re-read your description, I was struck by the fact it contains very few words that actually DESCRIBE. And yet the photo - which is exquisite - seemed almost superfluous; I was already there.
I love that you can find a place that makes your heart take flight. And that, when you do, you're honest and generous enough to share.
Damn. I totally wanna be like you when I grow up.
Absolutely stunningly beautiful. Just like you my bookend twin.
We all need a little escape.
Best wishes
DW: "Stubble Jumper" -- Ha! That's funny! My mom's the same way. Being raised in Nebraska, she loves the open plains.
IronFist: Deal!!
Nilbo: You just want to see if you can make me blush on my very own blog, don'tcha? ;) Thank you for those generous words.
CK: But I wanted to be like you first. :)
Traci: You are too sweet! And too far away. When do those girlies go back to school so you have to make a trip up this way??
McEwen: Welcome! It's true, escape seems to be necessarily intertwined with the human psyche, doesn't it? Although, fortunately, it takes as many forms as human beings themselves. :)
beautiful!!
Ahhhhh...can we live there too?
A.
Ah! No email on your profile, or am I just too thick to find it?
Cheers
Sweet.
Very gorgeous.
I ALWAYS notice the exertion on any hike I do. Dammit!
Dawn: Thanks, sweetie. How you doing these days? I need to pop over and see!
Angie: Absolutely! Bring kitties!
McEwen: Problem solved.
Peefer: Thanks, man.
Kranki: Well yeah... having to haul those ginormous new hoots around and all, who WOULDN'T?? ;)
Me thinks, ShariFaye, that I will simply have to plan a trip to your neck of the woods soon. See, daughter #1 now calls the wilds of Cheney home and only shows up for the occasional orthodontic appointment. Daughter #2 has no interest whatsoever in the wilds of our mid-state area and is looking at colleges in the western area of our state or out of this country altogether! We'll have to figure something out soon...
I can smell the trees and fresh air.
Sounds like a great time.
I so wish I were there.
Enjoy!
Shari: that picture is amazing, and I am moving as soon as I can convince my better half to do the same.
I know what you mean about feeling more alive... moving to the city most often feels like it has subdued me.
We're meant to be a little primitive, right?
When I was a kid, someone sent me a postcard with a view like that. It looks identical, in fact. It looked so perfect that I found it hard to believe it really existed. So I can see why it would take your breath away. Enjoy. Write more. We'll be here.
Stunning. The photo and, especially, the words.
Ooh, that's beautiful. I don't blame you for wanting to live there.
Sounds so rejuvenating.
Hey, did you get my e-mail?
That's the same way I feel about nudie bars.
At least those mountains are real.
TraciDee: Let me know your available dates and we'll make it happen!
Mad William: I love Washington state! Are you sure that art gallery of yours doesn't want to move over this way?
SS Nick: Ah Nick, I wish I could describe it better for you. It defies description, it really does.
Matt: I can be pretty persuasive, want me to take a shot at her? ;)
Ortizzle: It is probably my favorite place on the planet so far, though I've much to explore before deciding for certain.
Kalki: Thank you! Hey, where'd you go? I haven't been able to log onto your site forever. Whassup?
Lynn: The photo truly doesn't do it justice -- it's beyond.
Squirl: Did you get mine? See you soon!!
Limpy: It's so nice... I really feel like you get me here. Thanks for sharing your soul-baring experience. Oh... wait..., that wasn't your soul? ;)
It is so awesome there....we will be back!
Shelly
