When a good dog goes bad.
Sapphira may be dying. In fact, as you read this, she may have already passed away.
I heard a strange sound as I was closing down the house for bed. It was strange enough that I went out back to investigate, and there she was, lying on her side in the grass, the fur around her middle all matted down with dog slobber. But she didn't move, and her breathing made an odd, raspy sound and was more shallow and rapid than it should be. I scooped her up and brought her inside, scolding Brizzy for being too rough, and called the emergency vet. As I drove to the vet, tears rolled down my face. How could this happen? They are buddies! And Brizzy was clearly confused by her demeanor, not triumphant or dominant at all. What was he thinking, and why didn't she swat him like she usually does if he gets out of line?
We'll never know, I guess. But for now she's lying in a cage at the vet, fluids running through an IV, with air in her chest wall, a torn and bleeding liver, and an estimated 40% chance of survival. I know she's only a cat afterall, but she's our cat and we love her. And I'm crying myself to sleep. Please hope with me that she's still alive in the morning.

:( I'm sorry to hear this Eeeclectic. I hope it turns out well. Hopefully the docs will be able to patch Brizzy up.
Oh no, shari! I'm so sorry. I'll be hoping for the best.
Damn. That sucks so bad. Too bad the nine lives thing is just so much proverbial fluff and silliness.
I'm so sorry, Shari.
Hello.
oh no.
i'm knocking on wood, rubbing rabbits' feet, and searching for four-leaf clovers in every patch of earth i see.
I'm so sorry sweetie. "Just a cat" my ass! She's part of your family and it hurts when they hurt. I'm thinking of you today...and lots of other days too! Are you sure it was Brizzy? Maybe something else got to her...I'm just sayin'...
Oh no! Good vibes and prayers for you guys and your family. I'm so sorry to read this, Shari...
Oh Sweetheart ~ I am so sorry about Sapphira. There is no such thing as she's only a cat . . . they are members of our family. Of course you love her. I am hoping that she is still alive this morning. Hugs to you and yours!
Oh no! That's terrible. And to think that Brizzy may have done it probably makes it harder. Thinking of you guys today. Please update when you can and let us know how things are going.
I've got my money on the cat kicking the dog's ass next week.
It's never just a cat.
I'm sorry, Sweetie.
(((hugs)))
Oh wow... not good.
Really really really hoping that she's OK. So sorry this happened.
I'm so sorry Eclectic. I'm crossing everything I've got for you. I hope your baby had a good night and is on her way to recovery today.
(((((HUGS)))))

Ahh ... that's so sad. And I kinda feel for the dog, too ... they don't have the same kind of impulse control we have, no sense of how strong they are or the consequences of what they do.
Regardless of what happens to the kitty (and by now I'm guessing you know the outcome), I hope you can forgive the dog - it's not a case of a dog going bad, but more a dog being ... well, a dog.
I hope things turn out OK, darlin' ... thinking of you this morning.
Let us know soon. I've been through this and its so hard. Nothing I can say will help, just know I'm thinking of your family and praying for Sapphira.
I'm hoping with you.
Do you think it may have been a coyote? They are running around everywhere here right now. All of our neighbors make sure to have their cats in at dusk because that's when they start coming out. Just a thought.
Love to you.
Angie
"It's just a......" (cat,dog...whatever) would never, EVER cross my lips. I don't believe that shit at all.
I read your update first and can I just say "THANK YOU" for posting that as soon as you heard. If I had just read this I probably would have started to cry...at work...in front the Hubs who ALREADY thinks I'm a super sensitive wus.
