Enchantment

An exquisite moment. A blissful sigh. Transitory perfection.

Life seems to be measured by such events, the majority of it slogging along between them, anticipating the next or remembering the previous.

Which, on balance, seems such a shame.

You're so right. I think the best we can do is to look for those mini moments in between. You can't have a mountaintop every day (beautiful photo, by the way), so maybe today's moment is found in the three-year-old who says, "Falicornia." Or the contentment in watching a little one (four-legged or two) sleep.

Hmmm . . . this could make a cool assignment for this week, if you were so inclined--find the Enchanted Moment in each day.

The photo is beautiful and the smiles fantastic.

If we didn't do the slogging, we wouldn't be aware of an exquisite moment even if it hit us in the face. We can't have one without the other.

So we must slog to recognize exquisite.

Thankfully we have photos and memories to get us through the slogging, until the next exquisite moment.

With the utmost respect, I disagree on the fact that it's a shame ...

I think without the anticipation, we'd never drive towards the highs. And without the slogging to compare them to, the rewards would seem pale.

On balance, I think whoever designed this whole show got it right. Pavlov's experiments taught us that the most powerful motivator was INTERMITTENT reinforcement - if the rat got the cheese EVERY time, it would become sated and uninterested in the reward.

Having our highs, and appreciating them, and looking forward to the next one ... well, that's what keeps us moving along, as opposed to sitting slumped in front of a computer, endlessly checking blogs and ...

... ah, crap. Anybody got some cheese?

Great picture of you two.

Anticipating the next or remembering the previous- WOW. I really like that. I like it because it makes me realize that you also have to live in the moment, enjoy it- even if its a soft ray of sunshine warming your body, an unexpected hug from your child, and getting the dishes done.

Living life in the 'now' can be very rewarding.

Shaw-key: Ooooh, a challenge! I LIKE it! That will be my project this week. Wanna join me?

Nina: I know, and you're right. But couldn't the moments last a little longer? *sigh*

Bloggy: Ding! We have a winner!

Traci: Awww... shucks, aren't you kind?! I hate 'em. They're huge.

Mo/Dis: ::: looking nervously around for hidden camera:::

Nilbo: Is Cheddar okay? Or maybe a nice Havarti?

Jenny: Killer? Gah! They're attached! Get them off of me!! HELP!!

Lawbrat: You're so right. :)

Who is that man? I thought Mr. E had a moustache?

Um, ok I get sidetracked by (lack of) facial hair. I'm sorry but it's an obsession of mine...if the Hubs were to shave off his moustache or goatee, I'm afraid there'd be a horrible outcome.

Your legs ARE amazing....jeez woman. Mia Hamm would be *so* jealous if she saw your legs! ;-)

It’s the mountain top experiences that make the rest of life livable.

Well, I'll be!
He did shave the lip hair!
Didn't even notice until Soozieq pointed it out.
Too busy appreciating the muscular legs of his lovely wife and wondering how to get mine in such good shape.

It's official. I'm wearing stilts to Portland. And a burka. You guys are gorgeous! And totally hot, too. ;)

That's a nice picture of you! Look at those legs...

You know, the scenery in the background isn't too shabby, either.

Rick: In the Enchantments range of the Cascade Mountains in North Central Washington, overlooking a glacier-fed lake at about 8,500 ft. elevation. And bring the missus and Dusty any time. We'd love to have you. :)

Zuhn: Hee! *blushing*

JDR: Thanks! I like YOU! Hope you're feeling better soon.

Dawn: C'mon over -- I'll take you there myself!

Sooze: I know! I hadn't seen that upper lip in over 13 years, and then it was only for a week or so while he grew the 'stache back. But I gotta tell you, I'm kinda liking it, even though I'm typically a moustache enthusiast.

Shel: We get it from you!! (The cute, that is.)

Squirl: Yep -- it certainly was! And thank you -- I like the picture too, especially considering it was taken with an instant (wide-angle only) film camera!!

Limpy: How do you know we didn't?

CK: Hey yourself! I love me some hugs. Thanks!

Kranki: Without a doubt. Bring on the slogging! To have another day like that, I'd slog for a good long time.

GatoHola: You so silly! Love right back atcha!

SsNick: Right you are Nick. And thank goodness for them, eh?

Mo/Dis: He DID! Wierd, huh? And you know all about muscley legs -- I've admired yours more than once.

Peefer: What? I could fall, it could happen!

Jill: Nah, stilts and burkas can't be worn together before Easter. Or Ramadan, or Passover or something.

Lynn: The beauty of that place is beyond my ability to describe. What a perfect day that was!!
