Where Baseball and Track Meet

Ah, the thudding sounds of adolescent bodies smacking the pad at the end of the high jump, and the scent of starting gun smoke on the wind. Or the twangy thwack of metal bats on foul balls, and the scent of fried foods wafting above the concession stand. Yes, it's Spring. For us, that means track meets and baseball games.

Typically, practices and/or games and/or meets will conflict, requiring the parental Eclectics to divide and conquer as it were. Occasionally however, like this week, the planets align in kindly formation and the entire family is present at both events. Here is Little Boy Eclectic (LBE) as starting pitcher in the game his team won by 11 RUNS:

And here is Not-so-Little Girl Eclectic (NLGE) chatting (or talking smack, she didn't say...) at the line for the 50-meter dash before the event was called. For inquiring minds, she placed second by 1/100th of a second. She did so many events I lost count, including the the 800 relay, the 800 medley, the triple jump (she took first!) and others.

Yeah, I'm bragging. Just hit the little red "X" in the top right corner if you get bored. I won't be offended, I promise.

That last sentence was too funny!
Nothin' wrong with talking about your kids' achievements.
Honestly, it's okay.
Love the play by play description of the events. :o)

Eclectic, you should be very proud of your kidlets. They're a chip off the ol' block. Hope you don't run yourself ragged trying to keep up.

Oh, you know she was trash-talking the other girls. Looks like it worked too.

What kind of bionic kids are you raising there, e?

Its anything but boring to read about your kidlets! They are so precious, and have awesome parentals.

Good job!

Hear, hear! I second (third? fourth?) the comments here. You have quite the athletic kidlets, Ms. E. Like parents, like children.

The planets never aligned in kindly formation for me when my sons were into that stuff. How do you arrange that?

You know what I want to see?

A picture of NLGE running with her gorgeous hair streaming behind her. I bet that's a pretty awesome image.

Anyway, stop feeding those kids gun powder and ground glass. You're not doing all the other kids in their sports any good raising those bionic children ;-)

Twobear: Hi! I'll be right over!

Bloggy: Wait just a darn minute, there, mister. SPORTS = EVIL, remember?? Who ARE you?!

Mo/Dis: Can I talk about your achievements, too? 'Cause I'm almost as damn proud of you as I am of them. You've chosen a difficult path (but with enormous reward at the end!) and it's really cool to be with you as you go.

Squirl: Oh, but I DO run myself ragged trying to keep up, and most of the time I giggle at how scattered I am. But I am ohmigod SOOO proud! They are really good kids, truly nice people who are fun to hang out with. Thank you for the love, Sis.

Kat: I'm telling you, pick the weekend and I'm all over it! I can't wait to introduce you to my beautiful babies!!

Zuhn: Tee! Truthfully? Her coach tells us she's the "encourager" on their team. He wishes she were a little more "cutthroat." Eeeeek!

Lawbrat: Well, it takes one to know one I believe, Ms. Awesome Mom Herself! Thanks!!

Shawkey: I was never athletic at their ages -- I was the kid with asthma, who always had a doctor's note to get out of P.E. But I'm delighted that they are enjoying physical activities and some success as well. Thank you, sweetie!

SSNick: I promised to wear a midriff shirt when it's warm enough. Bwahahahahaha!

Sooze: Sssssshhhhhh! Don't broadcast my secret "vitamins" of ground glass and gun powder!! None of that candyass Flintstone junk around here... *Hee*

You know, all the moving shots are on the video tape, not the card, so I don't even think there's a way to download them. But, we have three more track meets, so I'll try to get a stillshot of her running on the card just for you, since you asked so nicely!

Totally awesome eclectic family! I love spring too! My girlies aren't into the sports thing so much at this time BUT they are big into the acting, singing, performing thing for sure! Thanks for sharing your babies honey! MWAH!

Yep, sports=evil. But I gotta support my son and he wanted to play...*shudders*...baseball. Heck, I survived three years of soccer.

You are my "(s)he-ro"

I like that your family MOVES! I second the comment about your kids being bionic.

You can tell LGE and NLGE that Uncle Curtis says that they're "The Bomb!" That is if that's what the cool thing is to be now-a-days. If not, just make something up.

I'm not surprised your kids are excelling -- just look at their mama!

YAY! Way to go little Eclectics! :)

Seriously now, your family is making the rest of us look bad. Can you just quit it? ;)

Eclectic, I love your blog and your writing but as a baseball fanatic I feel physical pain when you say your son's team won by 11 points. There are no points in baseball, only runs. RUNS.

Now that I've ranted about something less than meaningless, I will go solve cold fusion. Or take a nap.

I know NOTHING about baseball.....but I can see how very beautiful your daughter is. Like Mother like Daughter, huh? :)

I have to be honest with you, your kids are fine and I'm sure you're fond of them. My children, however, would beat your children at any sport. Just pick the time and the place. You shouldn't feel bad about this. I'm sure your children are perfectly adquate and or even above average when compared to the vast majority of children out there.

Please, don't be angry with your children about this. They're doing the best they can with the genes you gave them. It's not (entirely) their fault.

I hope you don't take offense at this. The sooner you come to terms with these facts, the healthier you'll be.

Hello, Shari.

you and your kids have more energy than any family I know.
Your kids are lucky to have you as a Mom, the juggler, coordinator and driver. Enjoy, they grow so fast.

Traci: My pleasure! We dabble in community theater ourselves, but nothing at the level of your ingenues, I'm sure. I'd love to see them perform someday!

Kranki: Yeah!! That's what I love -- they have so much fun doing this crazy stuff! Goofy kids!

Lynn: Wha? Aren't those Yahtzee tournaments going to be Olympic events in '08??

Bloggy: Soccer? Bloggy played a sport?? Gaaah! Who are you and what have you done with my friend, Bloggy? Return him unharmed immediately.

Deb: Wait! But you are MY s/hero! Cool!! Can't wait to hear about what you and the Zoe-cat do for adventure here in a few months!

Curtis: Uncle Curtis! I like it!! Now then, all we've to do is figure out when Uncle Curtis and Uncle Mark are coming round for a visit! Oh, and they wanted me to tell you "the bomb" is still completely flattering to them. Thank you!

CKelli: Nuh-uh... I've seen those little Clowns. Dey're da best!!

Limpy: Ha! What's funny is that my son told me the exact same thing when he read it: "Moh-om, it's not points, it's runs." (And yes, he DID speak with italics.) Of course the question remains, why would anyone play a game where the object is to get the runs? Sorry to cause you pain. ;)

Chia: I never ONCE said I actually keep up...! But maybe YOU could? I'll send them

Angie: Awww, now I'm blushing. Thank you, my coffee mug soul-mate.

Hello Scott: How refreshing it is to be confonted with honesty like this! Wow. I'm just thrilled that someone finally called my bluff. I feel healthier already!!

Nancy: They do grow fast, don't they?! We feel pretty lucky to have them, too. Energy? Then why am I always tired?!

Lisabeth: Anything I have done is just a drop in the bucket. I love your family. Little Grace makes me smile! Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a nice message.

Squirl: Yes you do!! She's such a pretty girl! Thanks for the heads-up!!
