Skate Skiing
One thing you might not know about me? I'm clumsy. Terribly, horribly, embarrassingly, irreparably clumsy. Really.
I tried skate skiing today for the first time.
***heh***
I must've entertained half the population of Washington state. Just doing my part to make the world a place of laughter.
Go me.

Um, what's skate skiing?
Besides, how does one learn *anything* without going through that little phase?
For example: My Dad is trying to sing kareoke;he's singing Ghostbusters.
Now he's going for some Cindy Lauper via Girls Just Wanna Have Fun...whoo-hoo.
Yeah, what is skate skiing? Does it involve putting in ice skates and then strapping them into skis? Don't you have to have REALLY strong ankles to do that?
md's dad is singing "girls just wanna have fun?" I love her dad, I believe.
M/D: You live here and you don't know?? Aaaaugh, the humanity! OK, it's a hybrid between speed skating and cross-country skiing. The gear is like XC skiis, but the boots are higher up on the ankle and a lot stiffer for power. Essentially you speed skate on skiis. Well, everyone else did, anyway. Me? Not so much. I did, however, do the splits. So I got that going for me... which is nice. ;)
Mrtl: Gosh, I hope so!! We did have a great time. Plus, the satisfaction of knowing I made everyone else's day -- that's worth something. A lot of little grannies out here saying tonight, "Oh Harold, I know I have a lot to learn yet, but gracious! Did you see THAT girl? At least I was better than she is!!"
Jim: Oh, if you could only see her dad, you'd love him all the more for it!! And see answer above re: skate skiing.
I'm glad you provided a skate-skiing definition because I had no idea either.
And I can't even imagine myself attempting it. I envision stepping on one ski with the other, and tumbling to the ground in a pool of laughter and embarrassment.
Hey - there is something to be said for being out there getting exercise (getting back up counts) and entertaining a lot of people at the same time. :) Those are good things. ec
As long as you didn't break anything and had a good time . . .
That is the important thing, right?
I don't like snow enough to do anything in it, but I enjoy hearing about those who do.
I'm like Nina, in that I don't like stuff that has to be done in the snow. And I could give you a run for your money when it comes to being clumsy. I'm a natural at it.
I would have peed my pants. I have that "sickness" where you laugh at other people's misfortune (read: clumsiness).
However, I too probably would have fallen numerous times and/or maimed myself and THAT too would have caused me to melt into a puddle of laughter (and perhaps some pee)
It's best that you not take me Skate Skiing when I come to visit, mmmkay?
I didn't know about it either. I am athletically challenged though so that is not surprising.
As long as you didn't break anything is all I care about. Bruised egos heal pretty fast.
I didn't know what skate skiing was either. I'm glad you explained it. I have never been on snow ski's in my life....grew up water skiing though. We obviously don't hit Mt. Hood much in the winter.
Hey eclectic....I think it would be AWESOME if you posted a picture of you and Briz...don't you think? I'm sure that if you did that no one would try and steal it or anything;).
I had no idea what it was either, but it sounds ...interesting. I'll stick to downhill, thankyouverymuch.
Have a wonderful new year.
Kylz: Hot trainer? Check!! Mr. Eclectic went with me!! Never mind that he's a beginner too... he's HAWT, and wearing form-fitting pants. No other instructions necessary!
Sharkey: Pretty much that's what it was like. Were you spying on me?
Mr.Ed: Yeah!!! That's what I'm sayin'.
Nina: I almost busted a gut laughing, does that count? And you don't need snow to try roller-blading.
Squirl: Yay! Clumsy folks unite!! I'm told that roller-blading is very similar to skate skiing, so you too, can humiliate yourself minus the snow!!
Sooze: The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that it's exactly what we should do! Nothing like home-made slapstick comedy...!
Kranki: Honestly, even the ego came home unscathed. Everyone feels like a dork learning this sport, and like SoozieQ, falling down makes me laugh like a hyena, so I actually had a great time!
Shangie: You got me laughing right out loud! No, no... I'm SURE nobody would misappropriate such a photo...!
Lawbrat: Downhill's good too -- we took the kids on Saturday. It's just that I know how to do that, so I don't look like a doofus. And really... where's the humor in that??! But there was PLENTY of humor on Sunday, lemme tell ya...
I'm counting on a wonderful 2006 for both of us, Dawn!
OMG! That's such a funny coincidence that you went skate-skiing, because I went drink-eating this weekend!
That's kind of the same, right, but just the Midwest version?
Recently I took the boy to a skating bday party and we scooted around on the ice with just our shoes. Does that count?
About 20 years ago I went cross country skiing......I didn't even hit the trail and i fell down and thought my brains were going to bounce out of my head.....and when ever I got to a little hill, I took my ski's off and carried them over the hill, then put them back on.....Needless to say that was my only adventure on ski's and if I would have added the speed to them, ohhhhhhhhhhh, bad news.....
Happy, happy New Year Eclectic!!! To you and your whole familia!!!
P.S. What's skate skiing? Oh, I guess it would help if I read down on your comments a little... hold on... Huh, interesting. Never heard of it -- but I'm not much of a winter sports gal. lol! Sounds like fun.
Hi Eclectic, happy new year! I think it's great that you started off the year with some good laughs. Now, where are the pictures of you doing the splits?
Never heard of it. Like Jenny, I also went drink-eating. I'm pretty damn good at it, too.
A post like this one just BEGS for video :)
mtbad: the meat's bad; don't go there
Ch-ch-ch-Chia: Snow bunny studs and hot cocoa........... mmmmmm! Throw in some peppermint schnapps and I'll toss away my skiis forever.
Kylz: One of a kind, Baby, and I got here first! But I've seen pix of your man, and I'd say you did alright in that department too.
Jenny: WIERD! It's exactly like that, factoring in the mid-west version and all. So, the splits I did on skiis? Um, lemme guess: banana splits for you??
Bloggy: Ab-so-effin-lutely! 'Specially since y'all're in the South. Extry points fer fahndin' anuthing cold 'nuff to slip aroun' on 'tall.
Judy: Well, the equipment has changed tremendously since then, but the basic premise remains. We enjoyed ourselves, and I'm excited about going again.
KMJ: Thanks much! Glad to see you out and about in blogland again!!
Zuhn: Nope. You're going to have to promise to email me next time you're in Seattle...!
Susie: Ha! What I would give to have video footage of it!! Sadly, no forethought means no battery charged. Besides, Mr. E was so busy picking up gear following each of my "yard sales" he didn't have hands for a camera...!
I think I'd need to see some sort of demonstration for this skate-skiing thing. I can't picture... I'm sure others here would like to see it too and partake in the laughter.
