A Dozen Years Ago

Brooke. By any other name... except we couldn't agree on ANY. OTHER. NAME. There must be hundreds of thousands times infinity names available for a beautiful baby girl, but your dad and I were at odds with them all for one reason or another. For pity's sake, he wanted to name you Reega Shae. Say it fast. Again. See what I mean? I feared we'd take you home and call you "Baby Girl" forever, since that was the name they would print on your ankle band at the hospital. But, then you arrived and you looked like Brooke. And you were the most beautiful thing I ever saw. You are more beautiful now, and you still look like Brooke.

Happy Birthday, Sweetheart! But could you hold off on turning 13...?

Is that a birthday pie?

Happy Birthday Brooke! Remember, when anyone asks, your mom gave birth to you when she was 8.

Hey Happy Birthday Brooke!!!!

so what's a nickname for Brooke anyway? I can't think of what it could be.

Oh, she is exquisitely beautiful, eclectic. And her name is one of my very favorites. The Brooke we know gets called Brookie Cookie, whether she likes it or not.

Wow, She is gorgeous . . . Dad is going to need a big stick or big gun to keep the boys away.
Wishing you a very Happy Birthday Brooke!

In that second picture (where she's looking back at the camera) I see such a beautiful and wise beyond her years look about her.

Dad might want to have a big stick or gun on hand, but I have a funny feeling that our lovely Brooke will send the chumps to the curb all on her own.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKE!

Curtis: She IS! And so are you!!

Nikki: Thanks! That smile is one of my most favorite things in the world to see. I hope I never, ever take it for granted.

Kylz: I know, huh? Funny how you can just tell, looking at them. I'm hoping you will get to have that experience too, since you want it so much. *mwa*

Jim: Yessir, it is. Hope you're not too disappointed. And how'd you know I'm 20? ;)

M/D: Confetti and balloons still make the celebration, even at the advanced age of 12. She loved that you gave her confetti and she didn't even have to sweep it up!

Twixie: Thanks! Funny, all the "nick" names involve lengthening. See below:

Susie: Brookey-Bear, Brookie-Cookie, Brooke-Worm.... the list goes on, but I love the name still. Thanks for dropping by.

KillerChi: She liked the "Heidi" reference. And I liked the "too hot" reference! :::smoochies:::

Nina: When you look at them and see them becoming these stunning PEOPLE, it's a shock that they're actually your babies, isn't it? Thanks so much!

Sooze: I soooo hope your funny feeling is right. (exchanging knowing glance with Sooze) I hope she really grasps that confidence to be self-determined and not subject to the whims of others. Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Kat: Thanks, Kat! I'm not sure how to break this to you, though: she LOVES kit-kats. I think she was switched at the hospital...

Judy: I love the name Jenson! This is an interesting time in their lives, don't you think?

Kranki: Thanks!! I hope she listens to you! And yeah, pie beats cake any day of the week if you ask me.

Lawbrat: Indeed they do. Although I think that's ultimately a good thing!

Nilbo: Hormones rule the world, my friend. I'll need all the luck I can get, so thanks.

Zuhn: Thanks! Of course, my brain hurts trying to say your name, now. ;)

Squirl: Thank you kindly! I think so too.

Romy: Brooke asked me to tell you "hi" and ask if next time we come to Mass. we could all go to dinner together?

Angie: She's overwhelmed that people are still making a big deal of her birthday, so thank you! She always thought my blogging was dumb before, but we may convince her yet.

Sharkey: I'm sayin'! Girl after my own heart: homemade blueberry pie (from berries we picked as a family last spring), warmed, with huckleberry ice cream. Mmmmm!
